The Magna Carta of Christian social doctrine begins with the words of Mary's song: "He has deposed the mighty from their thrones and raised the lowly to high places. The hungry he has given every good thing, while the rich he has sent empty away" (Lk 1 :52-53).
The gospel contains the greatest and most sweeping revolution. And perhaps it is part of God's plans that in this age, deeply concerned as it is with seeking solutions to social problems, it would be Mary to give us Christians a hand to build, consolidate, raise up and show the world a new society that strongly echoes the Magnificat.
