Who is it that urges Catholic priests to be as united as possible with ministers and pastors of other traditions?
Jesus crucified, in his cry of abandonment, has taken upon himself all the divisions of the world, all the consequences of our sin. And it is because of him that we try, we love, we hope, and we do not draw back when things are difficult.
At the centre of history, he paid for every division in the world including that among Christians, and he has yet to see the final fruits of that immense pain. It is he, therefore, who spurs us on to sow, even though we will not be the ones who reap.
He is the one who prompts us to seek the good of the Church that will come after us, and who convinces us that if no one begins and perseveres, then no one can bring things to completion.
